Baby cult

A few people over at reddit.com felt that this comic makes fun of young moms. That wasn't really my intention, it's more like, hey, a surprising amount of guys and girls from my hometown are having kids really young, and I thought it would be funny if there was some sort of eerie reason for this. Like a cult.

  1. Not everyone, just everyone you knew, or had a crush on.

  2. must be a small town thing. they all get defriended because, frankly, i don't care about their shitty kids.

  3. Don't worry about the people on reddit, they love drama. The comic was hilarious. Also, I've been a redditor for four years and had a child at 22.

  4. Yep, this is my hometown all over. We even had a few cults there... Luckily, I got out in time.

  5. Redditor for three years, and luckily my friends aren't quite to this point yet. I definitely won't go so far as defriending them, though. Not unless I didn't really like them in the first place.

Motherhood is like a weird cult. You're normal, and then all of a sudden it's a lot of "Oh. Youuuu'll understand one day". Any interest they had is gone, and they freak out when around someone else's baby. It's weird. They might have been agnostic, and then they're suddenly super religious. That sort of thing.

    It's really, really weird.

    1. Have you considered the possibility that it's you who is the outlier? That millions of years of human evolution have conditioned our species to bond, reproduce and rear offspring beginning in our teens and early twenties?

Think about all the unnatural contortions young people today go through to try to bond while avoiding reproduction, or avoiding bearing children once they're conceived. You might get a different take on what's really, really weird.

    2. Did Anonymous 1 say that the having children part was weird? No. It is the transformation that takes place with some women. They become "momma bears" (AKA-entitled bitches) who's world revolves around their children to the point where their former identity is completely obliterated.

As http://www.stfuparentsblog.com/ puts it, "You used to be fun, now you have a baby."

And yes, it can get that bad.

And yes, some women manage to remain separate entities from their spawn.

And guess what, when there are enough data points, they cease to be outliers and become a trend in their own right. The internet allows us to see that what has been widely considered "normal" is not as large a percentage of the population as we've been led to believe.

We "outliers" are NOT alone and we are no longer silent.

  6. In my town the age was 16, if you weren't babyfied by then, there was something wrong with you. There was no head shaking when pregnant 15 year olds were getting their wedding pics taken on the front lawn. But I made it out with a free womb!

  7. I do hope you realise that, by a few people, you mean the overwhelming minority. We love webcomics and their creators.
    Nice work. :)

  8. ugh this applies to me and my hometown is NYC. I don't know what happens to people at 23 but I'm glad I escaped it.

  10. I REALLY want to share this on Facebook, but my best friend is a part of that cult and I don't want to offend her - especially because I don't know if they gain powers after completing the offspring challenge.
